Suhakam yet to receive report over disappearance of Pastor Koh, Amri from special task force

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) is awaiting the final report of the special task force set up to investigate the disappearance of Pastor Raymond Koh and Perlis Hope founder Amri Che Mat, says Datuk Mah Weng Kwai.

“We are waiting for the special task force to submit their report and they previously mentioned that it would be done by this December.

“Other than that, we have heard nothing,” Mah said on the sidelines of the Human Rights Day Celebration on Tuesday (Dec 10).

Mah, who headed Suhakam’s panel inquiry into the disappearance of the two men, said the task force is to submit their report to the Cabinet.

“We will certainly have to look at the report after that. Part of our recommendation was to have this special task force to carry out further investigations and not to sit on our appeal,” he said.

He noted that the task force is supposed to carry out a probe on matters which were not initially investigated with regard to the disappearance of the two men.

In April, Suhakam announced the findings of its inquiry after a lengthy hearing, which began in August last year.

The panel findings alluded to individuals or groups involved in the force abductions of the two men, namely the police’s Special Branch.

Following this, the Government announced the setting up of a six-member special task force in May to look into Suhakam’s findings.

Koh was abducted by masked men in Jalan SS4B/10, Petaling Jaya, Selangor on Feb 13,2017, while Amri disappeared on Nov 24,2016, after leaving his home in Kangar, Perlis.
