Police questions on Pastor Raymond Koh’s disappearance mostly on Christianization, Suhakam panel told
16th Nov 2017
In response to questions by the Kohs’ lawyer, Steven Thiru, ASP Supari Muhammad admitted that 70-80 percent of the questions he had asked Liew focused on the alleged Christianization of Muslims. He also said his investigation into the pastor’s disappearance was derailed because the street cameras at the site where the abduction took place were broken and in need of repair, Free Malaysia Today relayed.
“I would say that was the focus, but I also questioned her (Koh’s wife, Susanna Liew) on his debts, bank accounts, his activities, the Jais (Selangor Islamic Religious Department) investigations and the information spread by Jais about his activities,” Muhammad told the Suhakam panel on the seventh day of the public inquiry. “I did narrow the investigation down to Christianisation.”
Thiru mentioned that Liew was dissatisfied and angry because the police did not give her regular updates on her husband’s case despite her efforts to ask for information. Muhammad, on the other hand, said the family was free to ask them for updates, but they “didn’t think it was necessary to tell the family as it was already reported by the press.”
When former Petaling Jaya councilor Peter Chong spoke before the Suhakam panel on the eighth day of the inquiry, he recalled how he was detained in Thailand by three men who appeared to be Malays. The alleged abduction happened when he went there on April 6 to look for information on Pastor Koh’s disappearance, the Malaysian Insight reported.
Chong said he was unable to obtain information. Instead, he was told to stop organizing candlelight vigils for missing persons including Pastor Koh by the people who had detained him.
The Suhakam public inquiry seeks to determine if the disappearance of Pastor Koh and three other Malaysians were enforced by authorities or not. Aside from Koh, the other cases being investigated by the panel are that of Pastor Joshua Hilmy and his wife Ruth, and social activist Amri Che Mat.
