Pastor Koh told volunteers not to talk about religion, wife tells inquiry

KUALA LUMPUR: The wife of Pastor Raymond Koh claimed that her husband did not allow the preaching of religion to the marginalised communities that he was helping.

Susanna Liew, 61, told an inquiry on Friday (Oct 20) that Koh had told volunteers of a non-profit organisation he founded not to talk about religion.

The organisation, Harapan Komuniti, was founded by Koh in 2004 to undertake social and charity work among underprivileged communities.

Among others, it runs a reading room in Petaling Jaya, a prison programme with the Prisons Department and works with people living with HIV/AIDS.

“Harapan Komuniti is not linked to any religion. It is not a Christian entity,” she said, adding that she could, however, not discount the possibility that Koh’s abduction is linked to his involvement with the organisation.

She was speaking at a public inquiry by Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) into the disappearance of four people, including her husband.

The inquiry is being held under Section 12(1) of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia Act in connection with the disappearance of Koh, social activist Amri Che Mat, Pastor Joshua Hilmi and his wife, Ruth Sitepu.

Koh, 62, was abducted from his car by a group of men along Jalan SS4B/10 in Petaling Jaya on Feb 13 while on his way to a friend’s house.

His silver-coloured car bearing the number plate ST5515D has not been found.
